The basic activity of road construction workers consists of maintenance activities for roads, runways, parking areas, bridges, and dams. Here are some operations that can be found in their everyday activity.
- uploading, downloading, or storing building materials and products
- removing topsoil, layingbitumen, concrete and the other materials to tar surfaces
- digging to lay pipes and cables
- directing traffic through construction areas
- cleaning manually or using automatic equipment for cleaning and maintaining roads, bridges and dams
- mixing the building material into containers
- assisting the team in using different machines and equipment
- organizing the workplace
- actively participating in solving team tasks
- strictly adhering to the labor protection rules, specific to each project and working site
- providing assistance, as much as it is reasonably possible, to any other worker in a dangerous situation
- informing the supervisor about any accident or unusual event
Road construction workers must do their job in any weather conditions and are often required to travel to various building sites in their area. It is not unusual for them to work on a different site every couple of days. Sometimes, they must also work at night, when the traffic is reduced. Typically, their working conditions are hazardous. There are plenty of great road construction jobs in Colorado that offer training as well as great pay.
