Your Quick Guide to Common Construction Terms

As in other industries, there are some words that apply to construction. Read on and learn what some of these words are about.  They are important to know if you plan on getting one of the great construction jobs in Denver Colorado or surrounding areas.

Roof

A construction element that covers a building, has water drains and protects against environmental factors (rain, snow, cold, heat, etc.).

Attic

A space under the roof, transformed into a room or in an ensemble of rooms.

Additive

The substance added to a mixture to improve one or more of its properties. A term commonly used in concrete and mortar preparation recipes.

Armature

The totality of the metallic elements joined together that reinforce concrete constructions.

Condensation

This is the process by which water vapor is turned into liquid water when it meets a cold surface.

Foundation

A structural element of a building, situated at its base and having the role of ensuring the uniform distribution of the pressure exerted by the building, so that the specific pressure admissible on the foundation layer is not exceeded.

Beam

The beam is an element of the structure of a building, with a very long length, which ensures the distribution of structural loads on vertical structural elements (bearing walls or pillars).

HVAC

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) is a technology developed to ensure the indoor thermal comfort, as well as good air quality.
