How well do you know your facts about the construction industry in the United States? While there are a lot of interesting things to keep in mind, the following facts are some of the most interesting, fun and somewhat surprising that we have found:
- In the USA alone, the construction industry is worth around $1.18 trillion, and that number just gets bigger with each passing year. There has been an increase in construction jobs in Colorado for infrastructure as well as housing.
- Despite being on a small island, Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, continues to expand. In 2016 alone, the city employed 20% more construction workers than in the past, and apparently even more laborers are on their way.
- In the 1920s, with tall buildings popping up all over NYC, the construction industry became the stage for a race between architects and construction companies. The competition got so heated that when William Van Alen designed the 185-foot spire for the large Chrysler building, he kept it a secret, so that his competitors wouldn’t try to top his achievement of designing the tallest building in New York.
- Large infrastructure is the cornerstone of the United States’ construction industry, and the Hoover Dam is the perfect example of that. The Dam is so massive that the 3,250,000 cubic yards of concrete used in its construction would be enough to build a 3,000-mile long highway to bridge New York and California.
