Construction work involves manual labor of various types and work that requires a specific level of practical skills. These aspects might lead you to think that construction workers do not need resumes when they apply for construction jobs in Colorado, but in reality, this is far from the truth: like any other job applicant, construction workers also need accurate, informative and attractive resumes. The reason is that the process of applying for construction work is similar to the application for any type of employment: the position is advertised, the candidates submit their resumes that are then evaluated by the human resource specialists at the company that is hiring to select the best applicants and to invite them for a job interview.
The application process for construction work being the same as the application process for any position, the resumes used for the application also need to fulfill the same criteria to raise the interest of the interviewer:
- Use a functional resume format – this format allows you to highlight your relevant skills and abilities and it is the best choice for newcomers to the construction industry as well as for those who have spent a long time unemployed or worked in a succession of short-term jobs;
- Present all your relevant qualifications and experience at the top of your resume – interviewers spend only seconds looking at a resume, so that is the timeframe that you have to grasp their attention;
- Focus on accomplishments – you can include a separate section for them.
