Why The Need For Construction Workers Is So Strong

Finding Qualified Construction Help

Nowadays, the construction industry is booming, but 9 out of 10 construction companies have troubles finding qualified workers, despite their efforts to organize apprenticeships and partner with schools for attracting young people.

The paradox is that construction jobs are well-paid and most companies actually raise their pay rates to compete for hiring.

But why this need for construction workers?

First, the population grows, there is no secret about it, and people need places to live, to work, to have fun etc., which translates into a growing number of construction projects. Also, there is a shortage of qualified workers. Young people prefer to follow the trend and opt for college instead of apprenticeships; regardless the modernization process in the construction industry, this sector doesn`t seem to manage to look attractive for the young generation. The number of older qualified workers is also smaller than 15-20 years ago, because of the recession. The recession ended in 2009, but many qualified construction workers who were forced to find another job back then never came back.

Currently, the hardest positions to fill include sheet metal workers, carpenters and concrete workers. Competition is also high for engineers, estimators and project managers.  Companies such as Build Colorado offer apprenticeships and construction training to fill the need in the local area and beyond.
