Job seeking is a complex process that involves lots of research and preparation. If you have mastered the arts of preparing an attractive resume and a matching cover letter and your efforts have been rewarded with an invitation to a job interview, here are a few tips on how to prepare for that phase, too:
- Research the employer – try to find out as much as possible about the employer’s corporate culture and the overall atmosphere in their offices. Try to contact someone who has been recently hired and find out about the interviewing process. The hiring process is going to be different from one of the good road construction jobs in Colorado compared to an administrative assistant for a local business downtown Denver.
- Research interview questions and prepare your answers – recruiters are trained to spot inconsistencies in resumes and to ask difficult questions, so be prepared to answer them in a confident and convincing manner.
- Wear the right outfit – choose clothes that suit the company’s dress code and culture, don’t overdress or underdress.
- Wear a smile, too – body language is also very important in a job interview. Keep eye contact while the recruiter is talking to you or while you are speaking, but don’t stare, be friendly and smile, but don’t be too friendly too soon.
- Arrive on time – try to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the interview to have sufficient time to calm down and to have time to observe the workplace as well.
