According to the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America, one of the latest trends in the construction industry is that “contractors are quoting longer completion times or passing up opportunities to bid on new projects as ways of coping with shortages of available qualified workers.” This shortage of qualified workers has greatly impacted the State of Colorado, with a projected 30,000 construction employees needed in the next seven years.
In order to overcome this challenge, the construction industry is taking strides to inform potential workers regarding the benefits of construction. “…Construction offers above-average starting pay, steady work and good career advancement,” said Stephen E. Sandherr, AGC of America’s chief executive officer. “Increasingly, workers get to use cutting-edge technology such as drones, virtual- or mixed-reality devices and GPS- or laser-guided tools.”
According to the National Association of Homebuilders recent survey in March 2017, the most important benefits of a career in the construction trades include:

- Obtaining useful skills
- Working outside
- Ability to start your own business
- No college degree needed
- Building structures that people
