The expansion of the construction industry in the field of residential, commercial, industrial as well as institutional building projects is also generating a widening gap in employment. The industry is constantly struggling with labor shortage, especially when it comes to skilled work to fill the jobs in Denver Colorado. Construction companies are constantly trying to attract workforce from other industries, but that can solve the problem only for office positions, that’s why apprenticeship programs have been revived and used by most large construction companies as a means to train and form their own skilled workforce.
Labor shortage affects most practical areas of construction work – there are never enough electricians, plumbers, elevator installation and repair technicians, not enough masons and machine operators. Construction companies try to bridge this gap by launching apprenticeship programs that offer the opportunity to anyone to learn a trade and to earn money at the same time. Apprentices are employed based on their interests and general attitude towards construction tasks, rather than based on currently possessed knowledge, then they participate in theoretic courses where they learn the science behind their chosen trade while also working under the supervision of a mater on a construction site during the day. Apprenticeship programs take several years to complete and they end with an exam – the apprentices who pass the exam become masters and can continue work for the company that provides the program.
