Construction apprenticeship programs are looking for candidates who can prove interest toward the trade that the program is about, rather than testing the applicant’s current knowledge in the field and approving candidates who already have some experience – any pre-existing experience in the field that the candidate wants to learn is welcome, but not a requirement, so lack of experience is not a problem in most cases. However, apprenticeship programs for construction jobs in Colorado do have education-related requirements – most of them are available only for those who have a high school diploma or equivalent.
There are several ways to prepare for a construction apprenticeship program, to increase your chances for getting a place in the program. One of the ways is to attend a pre-apprenticeship training program where you will not only learn about the trade of choice, but that will also give you the chance to find out if you like the trade, indeed. The other way to increase your chances for approval is to find employment as a general laborer, preferably at the company that offers the apprenticeship program as well, to get the chance to prove your skills to your employer and to meet key people who can promote your career later on.
