Best Way to Thank a Veteran

As the nation celebrated Memorial Day this past Monday, May 29th, we would like to thank all of those veterans who have bravely served our country. These men and women have taken time away from their families to train, serve and protect our freedom. We honor those who fought and died for our country in staggering numbers since WWI. But what about the veterans who came back home – how can we thank them properly?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for the youngest generation of veterans – those who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan era wars - increased to 6.3% in January of 2017. This jump signifies the fourth time in the last seven months that this particular group’s figure has been substantially higher than the overall veteran rate, which was 4.5% in January of 2017.

The Construction Careers Now (CCN) program offers a great way to thank our veterans, especially the youngest generation of veterans who are now looking for jobs in their civilian lives. With no experience needed and no cost to participate, these young veterans can learn the basics of construction through 16 classes over a four-week time period. With a hiring fair included in every cycle of the program, participants are able to meet face to face with real contractors to find out how they can change their lives with a new career in construction.

Honoring our veterans should not be relegated to one or two “holidays” throughout the year, but on a continual basis. Construction Careers Now seeks to provide a way to thank our veterans for their service and help them start a new, rewarding career in construction.
